Lake Drive Modern
RESIDENTIAL NEW CONSTRUCTION
This new custom home was designed with the client’s passion for mid-century modern architecture in mind. The home is private and closed off at the street to create a buffer from the busy Lake Drive traffic on the Milwaukee east side, and then opens up to the rear.
Once inside, a 12′ high ceiling at the living and dining rooms with floor-to-ceiling windows provides an uninhibited connection to the rear yard. The home is oriented lengthwise towards the south to achieve a passive solar design–sun is shaded from the interior in the summer with large overhangs, and is allowed to stream into the rooms in the winter.
The home is accessible, with no level changes, low thresholds, and wide door openings to allow the clients to age in place.
